SEAPARC Embarks on Skate Park Concept Design Project

Apr 25, 2024

Victoria, BC– The Capital Regional District’s (CRD) Sooke and Electoral Area Parks and Recreation Commission (SEAPARC) is excited to announce plans to engage the community in developing a concept design for the Sooke Skate Park renewal project.

“I am proud to support the skate park renewal project,” said SEAPARC Board Chair Al Beddows. “The skate park is an integral part of Sooke’s recreation amenities, and these improvements further our commitment to supporting sport and recreation for all members of our community.“

The Sooke Skate Park was built in 1997 by the Rotary Club of Sooke and is currently operated by the CRD’s SEAPARC Recreation Centre. This park has been a much loved and well used recreation asset in the community and is now in need of replacement. The objective of this project is to create a plan for future development and upgrades to the Sooke Skate Park and identify unique features that will enhance user experience.

“The skate park renewal project is key to ensuring the longevity of this much loved community asset that is in significant need of repair,” said District of Sooke Mayor Maja Tait. “Anytime we can plan and support outdoor spaces like these, particularly ones that are a recreational hub for our youth, it is a great investment.”

SEAPARC has obtained the services of Radius Contracting to lead the concept design project. Radius has designed and built skate parks for 18 years and is known for its dynamic and engaging parks. Their goal is to create a park that is locally inspired and will be enjoyed by the skateboarding community for many years to come.

Community members are invited to attend an interactive design workshop on Monday, May 6, from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm at SEAPARC Recreation Centre, located at 2168 Phillips Road, Sooke. This will be a great opportunity for those with a keen interest in the park to help shape its future.
