At the Capital Regional District (CRD), we are committed to equal access and participation for people with disabilities. We recognize the essential knowledge and perspectives of people with lived experiences and commit to making sure those voices are part of accessibility planning.

This work includes identifying, removing, and preventing barriers across our services, programs, and infrastructure, and treating all people in ways that allow them to maintain their dignity and independence.

Regulations under the Accessible BC Act identify municipalities and regional districts as accessible organizations. As part of our commitment and in line with these regulations, the CRD has created the following resources.

Accessibility Advisory Committee

The CRD Board established an Accessibility Advisory Committee in 2023. Its role is to provide recommendations to the Governance Committee that inform the Accessibility Plan and help improve the livability, inclusivity, and accessibility for persons working and interacting with the CRD.

Accessibility Plan

The CRD has developed its Accessibility Plan with guidance from the CRD’s Accessibility Advisory Committee. The Plan identifies three broad priority areas:
  • Built Environment Improvements,
  • Resourcing, Awareness & Training, and
  • Increased Access
We will update these priority areas and their goals, actions, and timelines over time. The feedback from the public and staff, combined with the work of the Accessibility Advisory Committee, will help shape the outcome in a comprehensive manner.
