"I decided to use the Garry Oak as a vehicle to express oral histories of the place. Stories discovered in the archives and with local residents are inscribed into the images of the trees within my artwork."

Blake Williams is a Vancouver based artist working primarily in public art. He has a background in photography and film with digital studies at Emily Carr University and specialized photographic training at Langara College. His public art may also be found in Coquitlam, BC; Red Deer, Alberta, Port Moody, BC; and Calgary, Alberta. In addition, he works in documentary film and video projects.

Public works include: "Migration" in Coquitlam, BC, "All Things intertwined" in Richmond, BC; "RISE" in Red Deer, AB; "Illuminations" in Port Moody, BC; and "Body, Mind, Spirit" in Calgary, AB.

Williams directed a documentary film for the CBC Television series "The Lens" entitled "Lottery on Ice"; has completed primary filming for "Secret Fire", a documentary examining spiritual pilgrimage; a music video for Alpha YaYa Diallo; and a number of short personal video projects reflecting on family, neighbourhood and community.

The piece is a steel, concrete and glass form. It’s clad in glass with fused imagery, colour and text.
