Aerosol Containers (non HHW)
Many personal care and food products are packaged in metal aerosol spray containers. These metal containers are recyclable and banned from the garbage.

If the aerosol was a non-hazardous household product (see examples below) and is completely empty, you can recycle with the CRD curbside program or it can be taken to any metal recycling facility. Aerosol containers are no longer explosive once they are empty.

Accepted for curbside collection are aluminum aerosol containers used for food, air fresheners, shaving cream, deodorant, hairspray and foam insulation.

If they are not empty, or they once contained Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) type materials such as paint, pesticide or fuel (propane, butane, etc.), homeowners can bring them to the Hartland Depot.

How do I go green?

Use only as much as is needed. Use up products before buying others. Look for the product in a manual pump container.

There are no practical options for reuse of empty aerosol containers.

Please remove the plastic lid which is also accepted in your blue box once it is removed.
