Water Quality Data Tables

The tables listed below provide summaries of Greater Victoria's Drinking water quality and includes the following groups of test results:

  • Physical characteristics (colour, hardness, pH, dissolved solids, turbidity),
  • Bacteria (total coliforms, E. coli)
  • Parasites (Cryptosporidium, Giardia)
  • Non-metallics (ammonia, fluoride, sulphur, etc)
  • Metals (aluminum, arsenic, iron, copper, mercury, etc)
  • Radiological Parameters (gross alpha and gross beta)
  • Organic chemicals (pesticides, herbicides, PAHs, phenols, synthetic organics)
  • Disinfectants (UV, total chlorine, free chlorine)
  • Disinfection by-products (DBPs) including trihalomethanes and haloacetic acids

The Japan Gulch Plant provides drinking water to all of the municipalities in the Greater Victoria Drinking Water System except Sooke and East Sooke, which were supplied by the Charters Plant. In late 2009, the Charters Plant was replaced with a new disinfection facility.

  • Table 1 provides data on the quality of the source water entering the Japan Gulch Plant (prior to disinfection).
  • Table 2 provides data on the quality of the water entering the Greater Victoria distribution system (after disinfection at the first customer location).
  • Table 3 provides data on the quality of the disinfected water entering the Sooke distribution system (after disinfection at the first customer location).
