Source Water
The Wilderness Mountain Water System obtains its drinking water from Wilfred Reservoir, a small surface water body which lies within a protected watershed and was created by the construction of two dams.
Water Treatment Process
Water from Wilfred Reservoir enters the Wilderness Mountain Treatment Plan. The water treatment process consists of cartridge filtration, ultraviolet disinfection and chloramine disinfection. The chloraminated water is then pumped to two distribution system tanks and to the distribution system.
Distribution System
Disinfected water is pumped to one of two concrete storage tanks with a combined capacity of 250 cubic metres and then is distributed to customers through a 3,750 metre network of 150 mm (6") and 100 mm (4") PVC watermains. Service from the property line to the dwelling is the homeowners’ responsibility. The distribution system also contains hydrants and standpipes.
