2.622 Water - Cedars of Tuam - SSI
The Cedars of Tuam Water System provides drinking water to a local water service area consisting of 16 lots in the Isabella Point area on the west shore of Fulford Harbour on Salt Spring Island. The Cedars of Tuam Water System obtains its drinking water from a deep well.
The CRD Board was requested in 2002, by petition from property owners, to establish a water supply system covering the Cedars of Tuam Waterworks District (1976) area. That same year, the CRD Board adopted Bylaw No 3021 which established a service to operate the supply, conveyance, treatment, storage and distribution of water, called the Cedars of Tuam Water System Service.
In 2003, the Cedars of Tuam Waterworks District was dissolved by the Province of BC and its assets and liabilities were transferred to the CRD. The Service continues to be authorized and administered under CRD Bylaw No 3021.
A Commission, made up of local residents and property owners as well as the SSI Electoral Area Director, provides community input for the delivery of water service. This service is managed and operated by the CRD Integrated Water Services Department.
The budget for this service is established through an annual CRD Financial Planning process. It is funded by connection charges followed by annual parcel taxes and water user fees levied in the local service area.
