Victoria, BC– The Capital Regional District (CRD) Traffic Safety Commission has awarded the seventh annual $2,000 Cst. Sarah Beckett Memorial Scholarship to Kendra Hamilton. Kendra is a graduate of Claremont Secondary School and is attending Wagner College in New York. Her study focus is on psychology and criminology. On completion of her studies, she hopes to secure employment in one of the region’s police forces.
“Kendra Hamilton is a student who is focusing her education to build a career dedicated to the safety of our communities," said Dean Murdock, Chair of the Traffic Safety Commission. "We are proud to support her learning and development.”
This scholarship is for post-secondary students who live in the capital region and demonstrate academic achievement, financial need, community service and an expressed interest in pursuing a career in law enforcement.
Constable Sarah Beckett lost her life in a tragic automobile crash in 2016. Subsequently, the CRD Traffic Safety Commission applied funds and created the scholarship to elevate awareness of traffic safety issues and the community service provided by police. The CRD Traffic Safety Commission is responsible for traffic safety education programs and making road safety recommendations to the CRD Board.
