Victoria, BC– The Capital Regional District (CRD) is updating its Regional Water Supply Strategic Plan and is inviting residents across Greater Victoria to share their input. The strategic plan defines at a high-level how the CRD plans to manage, maintain and safeguard the water supply, transmission system and water supply catchment lands servicing households in Greater Victoria over the next five to ten years.
“The Regional Water Supply Commission is planning for the future of our region’s water. We want to hear from the people we serve as we consider population growth, climate change and economic factors,” said Gord Baird, Chair of the Regional Water Supply Commission.
Greater Victoria residents are invited to take a brief survey to help the CRD understand community interest in the plan and preferred ways to share additional feedback as the strategic plan takes shape. The survey is available online until September 30 at 11:55 pm. Information gathered from the survey will help shape the future engagement for this project, which is expected later this fall.
The Regional Water Supply Service provides drinking water to approximately 387,000 customers across the region through municipal or CRD water distribution systems. The refresh of the 2017 Regional Water Supply Strategic Plan aligns with regional priorities outlined in the CRD 2023-2026 Corporate Plan. As part of this strategic plan refresh, the CRD has defined the mission statement for the services as well as, refreshed commitments to the public.
