2025 Hartland Landfill Tipping Fee Changes

Dec 16, 2024

Victoria, BC– The Capital Regional District (CRD) Board has approved bylaw changes at Hartland Landfill, including increased tipping fees for general refuse, controlled waste, and asbestos. The changes to Hartland Landfill Tipping Fee and Regulation Bylaw No. 3881 and Ticket Information Authorization Bylaw No. 1857 will come into effect on January 2, 2025.

The general refuse tipping fee will increase from $150/tonne to $155/tonne to keep pace with inflation and align with 2025 general refuse tipping fees in other regional districts on Vancouver Island.

Controlled waste and asbestos tipping fees will increase from $157/tonne to $214/tonne, highlighting the higher operational cost of responsibly managing these materials compared to general refuse and will signal to landfill users the risk to human and environmental health that these materials pose. Additionally, the fine for improper disposal of asbestos will increase from $200 to $1,000 per infraction to enhance bylaw officers’ enforcement tools.
