Asphalt includes aggregate concrete and road material. It is a petroleum based product mixed with crushed stone, sand or gravel to make a compound suitable for streets and roads. Asphalt road surfaces, however, can be recycled onsite, through a heating and relayering process or through transportation to another site.
It is banned from disposal at Hartland depot.
Consider use of asphalt alternatives if paving your driveway or a parking lot. Permeable pavement, such as paving stones, brick, gravel or stone, decreases storm water runoff, helps keep trees and plants hydrated and prevents contamination of ground and surface water with surface contaminants such as oil.
Used asphalt can be recycled into roads, streets, driveways and other products needing hot mix asphalt.
