Garbage
There are a number of materials banned from disposal as garbage at Hartland. Most of these items are accepted for recycling at the Hartland Depot. Unfortunately some items such as photographs and garden hoses simply cannot be recycled and must go into the garbage.

A wide range of items are part of  Product Stewardship programs which means they can be taken to a number of facilities for recycling for free.

How do I go green?

If your current sewing machine, cell phone or television works just fine, stick with it.  Repurpose items to give them new life. There are many websites with great ideas for repurposing items. Try - Upcycle That or Trash 2 Treasure

Donate items in good condition to a charity, community group, school or church (keeping in mind that these groups can’t use items that need to be repaired) or offer it for free online through social media or an online classifieds service. Consider repairing items whenever possible instead of purchasing new ones.

Not all facilities listed below are part of a provincial program and may charge a fee for drop off. Contact facilities directly regarding restrictions and charges.

    The 2023 per capita disposal rate for the Capital Region was 382 kg/person, well under the provincial average of 506 kg/person (2021).

    The Province has set a target for regional districts of 350 kg/person by 2020/21.
