Sports Equipment/Bicycles
Your old bike probably contains mostly steel or aluminium, but may also contain other precious metals. Your old skates contain metals and plastics that can be recycled as well. Much of the sports equipment you no longer use can be easily reused or recycled.

Exercise machines and sports equipment that plug in or use batteries are accepted as part of the ElectroRecycle product stewardship program.

How do I go green?

Repair your ailing equipment and maintain your bicycles so they last as long as possible. Don’t buy the kids the newest equipment just because it’s cool. Keep using what you have until it wears out.

Donate sports equipment that still works to a charity, community group, school or church (keeping in mind that these groups can’t use items that need to be repaired) or offer it for free online through social media or an online classifieds service. Consider repairing items whenever possible instead of purchasing new ones.

Contact facilities listed below regarding restrictions and charges especially for large items.

  • The Environmental Story

Sports equipment and bikes take a great deal of power to produce and transport, so keep that in mind the next time you think about buying new gear. Using your bike instead of the car is an obvious green solution and a healthy one as well.
