The Capital Regional District supports cycling and pedestrian trails on Salt Spring Island. The CRD has looked at the feasibility of developing a cycling and pedestrian trail on Ganges Hill.

Feasibility Study

A feasibility study was developed to help the CRD plan for future trails. The study was coordinated by CRD Regional Parks and examined the potential for a regional trail along a 1-kilometre section of the south approach to Ganges Village on Fulford/Ganges Road between Seaview Avenue and Beddis Road. The potential development of this trail is subject to CRD budget approval, community support and financial support from partners.

The feasibility study considered the Official Community Plan, the Ganges Village Pathway Network and Pedestrian and Cycling Master Plan: Salt Spring Island Edition.

Public Consultation

The CRD sought public input on options offered in the feasibility study and other options the study may have missed. Public feedback assisted CRD in determining the next steps to consider for cycling and pedestrian opportunities on this section of road.

CRD gathered and analyzed feedback from the public through the community consultation meeting and online response form. A 2014 report was provided to Salt Spring Island Transportation Commission on the results of the public consultation. The report was also submitted to the CRD Regional Parks Committee on the outcome of the study.
