The Regional Housing First Program is an equal partnership agreement between the CRD, the Government of BC through BC Housing, and the federal government though the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC). This partnership is dedicated to address housing affordability challenges and provide safe and stable housing options for families and people experiencing homelessness on southern Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands.

Completed Projects

Drennan and Sooke

The property at 2075 Drennan Street in Sooke offers 170 affordable homes between two buildings. The spaces available include a mix of studio, one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom homes. The Regional Housing Trust Fund contributed $765,000 to the project.

Prosser Place

Prosser Place is a 51-unit affordable housing building located at 1909 Prosser Road in Central Saanich. It offers a mix of studio, one, and two-bedroom homes. The Regional Housing Trust Fund contributed $615,000 to the project.

Croftonbrook

Croftonbrook is an affordable housing property operated by Islanders Working Against Violence (IWAV), situated at 132 Corbett Road on Salt Spring Island. The project offers 56 homes and amenities such as a laundry facility, activities room, storage, common areas, and a commercial space used by IWAV for administrative needs and counseling services. The Regional Housing Trust Fund contributed $408,000 to the project.

Upcoming Projects

Michigan Square

Michigan Square, located in James Bay, is being redeveloped under the Regional Housing First Program into two 4-storey apartment buildings. This project will contain 97 new affordable rental homes, while preserving the current 9-unit heritage home. The Regional Housing Trust Fund will contribute $1,095,000 for both buildings.

Campus View

Campus View is a 12-unit townhouse complex in Saanich’s Gordon Head neighbourhood. It will be redeveloped under the Regional Housing First Program to increase affordable housing to 119 homes, including 23 three-bedroom homes.

Village on the Green

Village on the Green is in Victoria’s Fernwood neighbourhood. It is owned by the Capital Region Housing Corporation (CRHC) and will undergo redevelopment. The project aims to increase the number of homes from 38 to 140, with 15 of them being three-bedroom units. 

The plan is to expand the property from 38 homes to 140 homes, with 15 of them being three-bedroom spaces.

Verdier

The Capital Regional District (CRD) has an accepted offer to purchase 1183 Verdier Avenue and plans to work closely with the Capital District Region Housing Corporation (CRHC) and the District of Central Saanich with the goal of creating more affordable housing in Brentwood Bay Village.
