Below is a detailed list of household hazardous waste items accepted from residents for no charge at the Hartland Depot.

What is household hazardous waste?

Household hazardous waste is any waste from your home that you consider to be dangerous or of which you are unsure. It includes any leftover household product that is marked flammable, corrosive, explosive or poison. Common examples are pesticides, varnishes, paints, cleaners, and batteries.

Automotive products

  • Air conditioning refrigerants
  • Antifreeze
  • Autobody filler
  • Automobile batteries - lead acid
  • Brake fluid
  • Carburetor cleaner
  • Car wax with solvent
  • Chrome polish
  • Diesel fuel
  • Engine degreaser
  • Fuel additives
  • Gasoline (* see requirements below)

* As required by Product Care gasoline will only be accepted in an ULC-approved gas can (jerry can), max 25L. For safety reasons, the gasoline container cannot be returned to you at drop off. See depot attendant for a $10 voucher for purchasing a new container.
